Dr. Matt Akridge graduated from Eastern High School in 1993 where he was an all-state and All-American basketball player. He also played at the collegiate level at Texas Christian University during the 1993-1994 season before transferring to the University of Louisville to play for Denny Crum, living out a childhood dream. Dr. Matt was elected team captain during his senior year and won the prestigious Denny Crum Award before graduating with his B.A. degree in 1998.
After graduating, Dr. Matt spent 4 years working as a sales associate for various corporations in the private sector. During the spring of 2002, he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps by pursuing a career in orthodontics. Following 1 year of additional undergraduate pre-requisite classes at U of L, he began dental school in the summer of 2003. After receiving his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry in May of 2007, Dr. Matt began his 2-year residency in July 2007. Once finished with his residency, Dr. Matt received his certificate in the specialty of orthodontics in August 2009 from Jacksonville University.
After working together for 10 months, Dr. Matt purchased the practice from his father in June of 2010 so Dr. Alan Akridge could retire. Despite retiring from the business, Dr. Alan still participates in various oversight roles in the practice today. Since taking over the practice, Dr. Matt has added brand-new decor and equipment including the latest technology like digital x-ray equipment, comfortable treatment chairs, and fully integrated practice management software that networks all three offices.
Dr. Matt has been married to his loving wife Jenny since 2004, and they have 3 children named Coleman, Cora, and Cailyn. He has been a member of Southeast Christian Church since 2000, and now serves as an usher. A large part of the Akridges’ life is their involvement with G.O. Ministries. Dr. Matt went on 2 mission trips in the early 2000’s, and was elected as a board member in August of 2009. One of their family’s missions is to be the hands and feet of Christ, and help children and families in other parts of the world.
